Same Titles, Different Movies: Sequels of Horror Movies

Horror movies are one of the genres of movies which can fill cinemas to the brim, with their faithful viewers always on their feet at the mention of the release of a new horror movie. The faithfulness of these moviegoers come a long way, to the point that a simple movie can branch out to a full-blown film series, which moviegoers highly anticipate to watch. Lucky for these fans, the year 2017 is the year of reboots and sequels as the classic horror movies are given their modern-day versions, and the long-lasting film series are incremented with another iteration of the films.

Amityville: The Awakening is the tenth installment of The Amityville Horror film series, and the nineteenth overall. With a set release date on June 30, the latest installment plays with a new family who has moved into a new house, only to know, after the occurrence of strange events, that they have moved into the infamous Amityville house. The movie starts Bella Thorne, Cameron Monaghan, Jennifer Jason, Leigh, Thomas Mann, Jennifer Morrison and Kurtwood Smith.

The famous girl that jumps out of the screen is given her third movie of The Ring. Scheduled for release on February 3, 2017, Rings (2017) relives Samara Morgan’s urban legend thirteen years later from the first movie, a young woman giving herself the job of saving her boyfriend from the apparent death brought upon by the cursed videotape.

Suspiria, an Italian horror film from 1977, has been lauded for its visuals, which has never fallen short of gore and effects. Now, it’s set to have a remake for this year, with Luca Guadagnino directing. The cast includes Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Chloe Grace-Moretz and Mia Goth, the first two having previously worked with Guadagnino. However, for the fans of the original, they might be seeing something entirely different from the original’s evocative lighting, as the director himself has said the remake has a different approach to the material.

Although considered to be the lowest grossing horror franchise in the United States, the Hellraiser series has gotten itself a new movie in its arsenal, set for a 2017 release date. Hellraiser: Judgment is the tenth installment of the series, written and directed by Gary J. Tunnicliffe, who promises that this sequel will not be for the sake that current rights holder Dimension Studios can keep their rights for the franchise, unlike the previous Revelations. The cast includes Paul T. Taylor, Heather Langenkamp, Damon Carney, Randy Wayne and Alexandra Harris, among others.

There are franchises like the Friday the 13th and the sequel of movies like World War Z which has films with an expectant return to the big screen for this year, only to be delayed for the next years to follow. Nevertheless, the fans of the franchises which are getting refreshed this year will surely get their horror senses tingling and make a run to the cinemas for the release of yet another movie that can give them the scare that they want.
